InMotion hosting has been around for over a decade now (established in 2001) and they currently have headquarters in both California and Virginia. Today, it’s time for an InMotion Hosting review!
With a wide range of hosting services from shared, to VPS, to dedicated options, there’s a lot to love here. The exceptional customer service and A+ BBB rating are also major selling points.
Today we’ll look at the company as a whole and then discuss my personal experience using their hosting. Finally we’ll check out other users reviews and wrap things up with a breakdown of the services and packages they offer.
InMotion Hosting Company Overview
InMotion hosting has a very clear and clean website presentation. Right when you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a variety of hosting options. As you scroll down the page, you’ll see several major features and benefits.
The company’s promise to grow with you, provide excellent support, and remain committed to open source software are just some of the features.
An A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is another major selling point, along with a 13-year CNET certification are even more reasons to consider this company for your hosting needs.
You won’t need to go far to find positive reviews of InMotion hosting on the internet. It’s the top rated service for most bloggers and established hosting connoisseurs. I have personally had an account with InMotion hosting since 2014, and that was back when they gave it to me for free.
These days I’m spending a lot of money through them, and I couldn’t be happier.

My Experience With InMotion Hosting
Back in 2014, I received a launch account from InMotion Hosting. I was immediately impressed with the service and I knew I would want to keep them around. I spread the word about how great it was, but now I think it’s high time we talked about how awesome this host is for just about any kind of website.
What I Liked
You’ll notice that I placed a table above comparing prices between HostGator and InMotion Hosting. That is no coincidence, as these two companies are neck-and-neck when it comes to my top pick.
The first big differentiator is the price. As you know, I can offer special discounts in these reviews for my readers, and InMotion Hosting promotional prices are the lowest I’ve seen for dedicated readers.
With the same hosting options as HostGator, it simply makes sense to recommend the lower priced option.
That being said, HostGator is still easily in my top ten hosting companies, so don’t write them off, but InMotion Hosting edges out in front for the price factor. I also enjoyed some of the add-ons and features that InMotion Hosting provides.
Things like SPAM Safe email accounts and Max Speed Zone are great additions to an already stellar service. The plans available are widely varied and offer plenty of scalability.
If you have one domain, the Launch plan is perfect to get your started. If you have three or more domains to host, then choose the Power or Pro plan.
Since the company makes upgrading so simple, I recommend starting small and moving up as needed. In 2013, the website was upgraded to support a bunch of great new features like 1-click installation through Softaculous, and plenty of other eCommerce solutions:
- Zen Cart
- The Hosting Tool
- PHP Point of Sale
As you can see, it’s an amazing list for eCommerce website owners. It’s worth mentioning that the renewal prices will be higher than the original promotional options, but this is standard throughout the industry.
Now, let’s talk uptime! InMotion Hosting’s uptime ratings are through the roof! I’ve never had the servers go down on me. Whenever I do prolonged testing, my results are always between 99% and 100%.
There is absolutely no significant downtime to speak of when it comes to this company. That is an incredible accomplishment in and of itself.
For my speed tests, I used a tool called Bitcatcha to ping the site from eight different locations. Seriously, that’s an amazing tool. The results I got were rated based on site response time (down to the milliseconds). These ratings are then compared to over ten million other websites to assign a letter grade.
My test site on InMotion Hosting scored an A+ on the speed test! The final scores were all below 400 milliseconds! That’s incredible, especially for an eCommerce site where every fraction of a second counts.
As of April 2015, the company started using Solid State Drives (SSD) which load data 20 times faster than standard drives. In addition, these drives can push 65% more data from the servers. There is peering technology in place at the data centers located on the East and and West coasts.
You are able to choose your data center and you get a special boost if you happen to live within the Max Speed Zone. In this area your email and website can run up to six times faster! Remember, speed is everything and Google treats website loading speed as a ranking factor, so the more you have, the better.
You’ll be happy to know that InMotion Hosting offers an Anytime Money Back Guarantee for its users. This is one of the longest refund policies you’ll find and it showcases how confident they are in the service they provide.
Speaking of confidence, InMotion has been in business for over a decade, and they’ve managed to survive just about every financial and economic crisis that’s come their way. It’s clear that this is a strong hosting company that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Drawbacks of InMotion Hosting
It’s hard to find things to complain about when it comes to InMotion Hosting, but there are a few “drawbacks.”The lower hosting packages offer a limited amount of domains, while the Pro package allows for unlimited parked domains.
The company has a strict policy when it comes to fraud prevention. One of these is the requirement to verify your identity over the phone when you purchase hosting.
For those of us in the U.S. this may not be too much of an issue, but those living outside the country will have to deal with long-distance calls and time zone confusion.
Honestly though, the presence of better security simply means that the company is focused on your safety and security.

- Blazing fast website speed

- Affordable pricing

Helpful User Reviews
I’ve reached out to some of the customers who purchased hosting through this review to see how they liked their service from InMotion Hosting. Here’s what they had to say:
“I have had InMotion Hosting for three years now and I figured it was about time I wrote a review! During these past years, I’ve had to call the support line more times than I’d like to admit. I’m not the most web savvy person in the world. The people on the phone were incredible nice and helpful every single time, which I really appreciated.
On top of that, the uptime and pricing have always been straightforward. There’s not much else to say, I love this hosting company!”
– Bernadette Winslow
“My company has used InMotion Hosting for several years now. During those years, we had practically zero downtime and amazing support from the customer service teams. When we had to consult the 24/7 chat, I was pleased with how knowledgeable the staff was. They were able to explain both problems and solutions in a way that made total sense to someone with less experience.
Obviously hosting is a huge decision for a business, so I didn’t take this lightly. InMotion Hosting is truly a spectacular service and I would wholeheartedly recommend them.”
– Allyson Meyers
“InMotion Hosting’s customer service is one of the best I’ve experienced, but I will say that you need to stay on them if you want to see results. They get backed up and sometimes your problem will get lost to the wind if you don’t stay on them. Otherwise, you may get annoyed with the strict security, but you’ll be happy it’s there if something goes wrong.”
– Celia Galvez
“I use the reseller hosting plan through InMotion Hosting and it’s been nothing but successful for me over the past few years. My clients are absolutely thrilled with the phenomenal uptime that the company offers.”
– Brian Galvez
“I usually tell myself that I’m too busy for writing reviews, but I had such an amazing experience recently on InMotion Hosting that I decided to set aside the time to write this one. One day I logged onto the website and found that I had somehow “broke” it. That’s the best way I can think to describe it, but the whole thing was down and it wasn’t the hosting company’s fault.
I immediately called the customer service line, frantically hoping that someone could help me. I was panicking to be honest. When I was connected with someone, they were immediately understanding and sympathized with my situation. The problem was fixed quickly and before I knew it I could breathe a sigh of relief.
I’m sure they deal with people like me all the time, but the quality of the service was incredible given the sheer amount of people they talk to on a daily basis.”
